Poesia Visual Culinària (Culinary Visual Poetry) is an artistic action by David Ymbernon that combines cooking, magic, object theatre and visual poetry to play with appearances and question the relationship between them and reality. Dressed as a chef, Ymbernon prepares an apparently conventional meal, but nothing is what it seems, and each ingredient hides a surprise: when he cracks an egg, lettuce comes out; from a banana, a sausage; from a pepper, olives; and from a litre of milk, wine.

Through humour, surprise and play with everyday objects, Ymbernon turns cooking into a poetic language and opens up a space for the imagination. The action does not seek to prepare a dish, but rather to alter the way we look, explore the capacity of art to transform reality, and give new meanings to what is familiar to us. Culinary Visual Poetry was created in 1999 and received the National Award for Artistic Actions.

David Ymbernon is a Catalan visual artist and poet and a leading figure in interdisciplinary visual poetry. His work brings together poetry, visual arts, performing arts, magic and cooking to create a unique hybrid universe that transforms everyday life into art, where reality enters into dialogue with fantasy. He has presented more than 40 solo exhibitions and created more than 20 stage works, establishing himself as a prominent figure in contemporary art.
