A workshop led by Compagnia Dromosofista exploring the expressive freedom that emerges from the encounter between the puppet and the actor’s living body. An invitation to discover the remarkable effort of stepping back on stage to bring life to something that remains silent: the puppet.
For the company, a puppet is something to be discovered. The first step is to find it: it might be hiding among everyday objects or take shape in a material or texture that sparks curiosity.
Once found, the next step is to give it room to move, act and react. In the company’s poetic universe, figures come to life through their relationship with music, atmosphere and the actor’s body.
The workshop invites participants to play with inanimate objects and explore their expressive potential. The silent object takes centre stage, while different forms of performance spontaneously come together around it, from dance to clowning.
Through a range of materials and puppet theatre techniques, the workshop encourages participants to discover the expressive power contained in every small gesture of manipulation.
Compagnia Dromosofista was founded in Italy in 2007, following the encounter between Rugiada, Timoteo and Tommaso Grignani and brothers Facundo and Santiago Moreno. The latter moved from Buenos Aires to Genoa when they were still very young, and it was there that they began playing music in squares and carruggi, the narrow alleyways of the old town. Since 2002, they have performed at festivals in Italy and around the world and, together with the group Aparecidos, present a repertoire of original compositions.
Rugiada, Timoteo and Tommaso Grignani grew up in the world of theatre and, from an early age, took part in the adventures of the Teatro de la Familia Girovago y Rondella. During their childhood in Greece, they performed alongside their parents and began learning the art of figure theatre, discovering the foundations of a popular and poetic tradition.
