EL GORDO RONAL AND HIS EXCESSES (Opening > Possibility > Potential), by Paula La Fea
If everyone were the same, everything would be more predictable. Easier, perhaps. But also more boring.
What happens if we stop correcting ourselves all the time? What happens if we stop trying to fit in? And if we let go of the idea of being better?
Enter Gordo Ronal. Who is he? A character. An excuse. Another one who could be you or me.
Gordo appears when we fail to meet expectations. When we overflow, make mistakes, show what we “shouldn’t.” It is excess, laughter, crying, shame, impulse. All mixed together.
He does not seek to please. He does not apologize. Gordo does not want to be a hero. He does not want you to follow him. He does not want to save you. He just is. Showing himself as he is: strange, uncomfortable, powerful. Free.
Using the figure of Gordo Ronal, Paula La Fea proposes a laboratory aimed at secondary school students: a space to think through the body, error, and excess.
The first stage will take place in November 2025 at CCCB, within the IF Barcelona festival, and will culminate in an open session in summer 2026, yet to be revealed.
The project originates at RedMèdia, the engine and accomplice of this educational exploration.
Paula La Fea is an Argentine artist and designer. For over 18 years, she has worked across disciplines: architecture, design, visual arts, performing arts, cultural management, and education.
Her practice expands through Estudio FEO, which she founded and directs. She designs objects, characters, spaces, and experiences that challenge ideas of beauty and expectations of art, design, and the body.
Her work does not beautify ugliness. Nor does it romanticize it. She plays with it, disarms it, and uses it as a tool for expression. More than creating characters, Paula La Fea builds universes. And in them, everything that is “extra” also matters.
