ELK is the second piece about stage practice after the age of forty and the fascination of being on stage for 25 years. It is part of a journey that began with the performance ‘Bailarina’, an unapologetic work about the profession and the passage of time.

ELK is a performative dance piece, performed by Sònia Gómez, that engages with raw or minimally processed materials. It is a dialogue between the dancer’s body and other organic bodies such as clay, wool, cork, glass, natural latex, silk, wood, stone and plant fibres. ELK is also an investigation into energetic and performative properties, a dramaturgy of visible and invisible matter through which to imagine together spaces that are healing, creative and useful for existence.

Sònia Gómez is a dancer, performer and choreographer. Trained in contemporary dance and choreography at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), since 2004 she has developed a practice focused on identity construction and the critique of social impostures through the body and performance. She has presented her work in Europe, America and Asia. Among other distinctions, she has received the Premi FAD Sebastià Gasch (2007) and several Premis Butaca (2018, 2022).
