CREATIVE WORKSHOP: FOLEY AND SOUNDSCAPE, by Macarena Recuerda Shepherd

28 nov | 17 h | La Caldera (BCN) | Buy tickets |

Inspired by the piece Si fos una pel·lícula (If It Were a Film), Macarena Recuerda Shepherd proposes a two-hour participatory workshop exploring how sounds are created for cinema. Through play and experimentation with everyday objects, participants will become a Foley team, creating sound effects live for stories and film scenes and discovering how sound can bring characters to life, build atmospheres and evoke emotions.

Aimed at children aged 6 to 9 as well as intergenerational groups, the workshop is conceived as a collective artistic experience in which play, imagination and active listening become the main creative tools.

Objectives

  • Introduce children and young people to the language of sound in theatre and audiovisual media.
  • Experiment with Foley as a creative tool.
  • Develop listening skills, sonic imagination and collaborative work.
  • Understand how sound can create narratives, atmospheres and emotions.
  • Encourage collective creation through play and exploration.

Workshop content and development

The workshop is organised into three stages of sound creation:

  • Soundscape of a story: collective creation of sounds to narrate a short story, exploring different textures, rhythms and atmospheres.
  • Soundscape of a scene: working in small groups to design the sound for a specific scene, investigating how sound effects change the way an image is interpreted.
  • Final recording and playback: participants will record their final sound composition, followed by a collective listening session that highlights the creative process and the value of shared creation.

Methodology

The workshop follows a participatory approach based on play and experimentation. Participants will work in small groups, organising themselves to make creative decisions and collaboratively develop their sound proposals.

Bio Macarena Recuerda Shepherd

She trained in performing arts, theatre and dance. Although she graduated from the Institut del Teatre, her main interest lies in participatory projects that seek to create new ways of engaging with art.

Since 2012, her research has focused on the role of the spectator, inventing new spaces for playing, creating and thinking together.

Her work follows two lines of research: one focused on theatrical language and the other on participatory and educational formats. Since 2018, she has been investigating perceptual images. Si fos una pel·lícula is her latest creation and continues this research into perception, fiction and the construction of the gaze.

Her projects have been presented in theatres and at festivals throughout Spain, as well as in Portugal, France, Italy, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Estonia, Croatia, Egypt, China, Peru, Colombia, Argentina and Chile.
