Durational performance / press conference / opening

One performance
and two press conferences.
Three hours of slowed-down cumbia
And four double Americanos.
Five yellow pills
And six meals.
Seven guided tours,
one of them in English.
Eight hours’ time difference with Luisa.
And a few less with Luis.
Nine sets,
all of them recycled.
Ten times you’ll say, “Was all this really necessary?”
And eleven times we’ll say, “How much longer until it’s over?”

Twelve stage remnants
And thirteen poems.
All of them unpublished
All of them homegrown
All of them mediocre, verging on bad.

Fourteen instructions.
The first one says:
Before setting off on a new journey, it’s time to take refuge at home and gather your strength.

The second:
Take it easy.

The sixth:
To avoid awkward silences,
you need to have a few bad jokes ready.

Total number of bad jokes: fifteen.
Total number of awkward silences: sixteen.

She was seventeen when she left for London.
I was seventeen when I left the desert.
She was twenty-one when she crossed the Atlantic.
I was twenty-one when I crossed the Andes.

But, of course, those facts belong to another list.

Let’s go back to seventeen.
No, better not. Let’s go straight to twenty.

Twenty is the time it begins
And twenty-one the time it ends.

And around twenty-two are the friends
we’ve roped into doing this.

Since twenty-three is your number, you decide.

Twenty-four is the number of hours in a normal day.
Twenty-five is today’s date.
